Why 147gr?

If you're here, you already know — 147gr is the load you choose on purpose. It's not the default. It's the answer to a specific question.

At 925 FPS, this round travels below the speed of sound — true subsonic, no supersonic crack. Pair it with a suppressor and you get the quiet range session you actually paid for that can to deliver. Run it through a competition pistol and you get the softer recoil impulse that helps you call shots faster. Push it through a bullseye gun and you get the heavier projectile stability that tightens groups.

For Suppressor Users
Subsonic 925 FPS means no sonic boom — the bullet stays below the sound barrier from muzzle to target. Your can does its job, you keep your hearing.
For Competition Shooters
Heavier bullet = softer recoil impulse = faster sight tracking. USPSA, IDPA, and steel shooters reach for 147gr to hit major power factor with less muzzle flip.
For Accuracy Shooters
Heavier projectile = better in-flight stability = tighter groups at distance. Bullseye and precision shooters chase 147gr for a reason.
For Defensive Carry Practice
If you carry HST 147gr, Gold Dot 147gr, or Winchester Ranger 147gr, this trains at the same weight and recoil impulse as your defensive load — without burning premium JHP at the range.

How We Build It

16-point QC. Every round. No exceptions.

Every Brass Kisses 147gr cartridge starts as once-fired brass that we treat like it matters — because it does:

  1. Inspected for splits, cracks, and defects
  2. Cleaned and pressure-tested on automated Scharch Range Master systems
  3. Deprimed with flash holes cleared
  4. Primer pockets reamed to accept fresh CCI primers
  5. Acid-washed for surface uniformity
  6. Resized on proprietary Brass Kisses tooling to strict S.A.A.M.I. spec

Then we load with premium components — new CCI primers, new Hodgdon powder, new 147gr copper-jacketed projectiles — on Camdex and Ammo Load Mark X presses. Every batch runs through our 16-point quality control before it ships.

Reliable. Unapologetic. 100% Guaranteed.

Common Questions

Is this truly subsonic?
Yes — 925 FPS average velocity, well below the 1,125 FPS speed of sound. Confirmed on our chronograph. Run it through a suppressor and you'll hear the action cycle louder than the report.
Will it cycle in my pistol?
147gr cycles cleanly in most modern 9mm pistols — Glock, SIG, M&P, CZ, HK, standard 1911s. Some lightweight subcompacts and recoil-spring-light competition guns are tuned for 115gr or 124gr and may not reliably cycle the heavier 147gr load — if yours is on the edge, our 100% guarantee covers you either way. Suppressed firearms typically cycle BETTER with 147gr because the heavier bullet gives the action more energy to work against the back-pressure of the can.
Is this +P or hot-loaded?
No — this is standard-pressure 9mm Luger, loaded to SAAMI spec. The 925 FPS subsonic velocity is intentional, not the result of light loading. It's designed to stay subsonic at this bullet weight, which is what makes it ideal for suppressed shooting.
Should I use this for self-defense?
This is FMJ range/training ammo, not defensive ammo. For carry, we recommend our Self Defense Kisses line — new-production 124gr JHP built specifically for defensive use. If you carry a 147gr JHP load like Federal HST 147gr or Speer Gold Dot 147gr, this 147gr FMJ gives you the same bullet weight to train with on the cheap.
Will the reman brass damage my suppressor?
No. Reman vs new brass has no effect on suppressor wear — what matters is the bullet (we use copper-jacketed FMJ, the standard projectile for suppressor use), and we don't allow unjacketed lead through our line. Our 147gr is suppressor-safe.
How fast does Brass Kisses ship?
Orders typically ship within 7 business days from order placement. Need a status update? Email us at info@brasskisses.com. Small Utah outfit, every order matters, we'll be straight with you about timing.
What about hazmat fees and state restrictions?
Hazmat fees calculate automatically at checkout based on your shipping address. A few states (CA, NY, CT, MA, IL) have ammunition shipping restrictions requiring additional documentation. Checkout flags any restrictions automatically.
