Supersonic vs subsonic — which one do I want?
Supersonic 147gr (this product) is for hunting, defense, and unsuppressed range work — more energy, flatter trajectory. Subsonic 220gr is specifically for suppressor use — stays under the speed of sound so your can does its job. If you run a suppressor, you want our .300 BLK 220gr Subs instead.
Should I use this for self-defense?
.300 BLK 147gr supersonic is popular for home defense from AR pistols and SBRs because it hits harder than 5.56 from short barrels with less wall over-penetration. But this is FMJ training ammo, not a dedicated defensive load. For dedicated defense, look at expanding-bullet .300 BLK loads (Hornady BLACK V-MAX, Barnes TAC-TX). Train with this. Carry an expanding load.
